Ready Responders

60-Minute Workshop | Ages 7–16

Ready Responders is an interactive home fire safety workshop for kids ages 7–16, led by Greg Vick of the Royal Oak Fire Department. Students learn how fires start by exploring the fire triangle and common household risks like cooking, candles, and electrical hazards. Through engaging visuals and discussion, kids begin to see themselves as active participants in home safety.

The workshop centers on escape planning, with students mapping their home, identifying two exits, and choosing a safe meeting spot. They practice key actions like “get out, stay out, and call 9-1-1,” along with hands-on skills like Stop, Drop & Roll and crawling under smoke. A brief role-play builds confidence in calling 9-1-1 during emergencies. The session ends with a recap and clear take-home steps to share with their families. Students leave feeling prepared, capable, and ready to respond.
