Bee Prepared Academy Safety Workshop
2 ½ Hour Workshop | Ages 7–11
In our hands-on Bee Prepared Academy Safety Workshop exclusively at Bloom U, kids learn how to help in everyday emergencies with confidence and care.
Upon completion, kids receive iron-on badges for each segment and a backpack as part of their Bee Prepared Academy graduation.
Led by our Bloom Pediatrics Nurses and Nurse Practitioners, the Bee Prepared Academy Safety Workshop includes (2) 5-7 min breaks including snacks in our 3-part series of topics:
(1) First Aid Squad (45 min) introduces essential safety and first aid skills in a fun, age-appropriate way. Kids learn when to call 911, how to respond to someone who is injured and how to properly care for minor first aid situations like cuts, scrapes, nosebleeds and burns. Kids get a guided tour of their own Bloom U first aid kit to bring home and continue practicing their skills so they’re ready to help when it matters most.
(2) Heart Saver Heroes (45 min) focuses on essential CPR and emergency response skills in an engaging, nd approachable way. Kids learn the chain of survival and learn when and how to take action in an emergency. Using infant, adolescent and adult sized CPR mannikins, kids will practice hands-only CPR and learn how to use and locate and AED. Heart Saver Heroes also covers how to administer choking first aid for infants, adolescents and adults.
(3) Ready Responders (45 min) led by firefighter Greg of the Royal Oak Fire Department, Ready Responders centers on teaching kids fire safety at home. Kids will learn how to prevent fires from starting including how to mitigate common household risks like cooking, candles and electrical hazards. Kids will discuss escape planning and participate in an interactive activity where they map their home and points of exit and will learn hands-on skills such as how to use a fire extinguisher, how and when to Stop, Drop & Roll and how to crawl under smoke.
